Board ported to new hardware and Linux

Postby embleton » Fri Jul 03, 2015 7:22 am

We are very pleased to port Crazy as a Left Handed Computer to new hardware and the Linux ubuntu OS from Windows. This was to remove limitations of the Windows web server, and to improve the overall performance of the board. The port went well, with little issues whatsoever transferring the data from Windows MySQL to Linux MySQL.

The new hardware is a Dell XPS 435MT i7 Intel processor with 6GB memory and two 500GB hard drives in a RAID1 mirror configuration. The OS is Ubuntu Linux, latest release, with PHP 5, MySQL and Apache web server with numerous additions to PHP 5 for the requirements for phpBB3 and its addons. More about the process of updating the OS and migrating the system is available at this http://embleton.me.uk/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=146 link.

Owing to the high cost of electricity the forum has moved to low power technology. It now runs under Ubuntu MATE on a Raspberry Pi 3 model B 1GB. :-)

A Pico UPS was added to the Raspberry Pi 3 hardware today. This UPS protects against data loss in the case of power failure. :D
